In March 2011 Plymouth Argyle went into administration following a meeting of the club's directors. The debts were massive and it seemed that the Home Park curtain was about to come down on the Pilgrims for the last time.
But then in October 2011 the magic of a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) resulted in all unsecured creditors receiving less than one penny for every pound owed.... Plymouth were out of debt and within only a few months the club were talking up the prospect of promotion to the Championship and beyond.
Fibrelastic® is the registered trademark given to a totally natural turf growing in a Fibrelastic® rootzone. It delivers a superb playing surface for top-class professional football and rugby pitches.
A pitch developed with this system will comprise 80% by volume sand and 20% by volume organic matter, reinforced with both polypropylene and elastane fibres. The system can be expensive, perhaps up to £500,000 for a Football League pitch.
Oh, and what a bit of luck…..Plymouth managed to get Inscapes, a south Wales company, to upgrade the Home Park pitch with Fibrelastic® just before the massive debts became public knowledge……
The news that Plymouth Argyle were 'bust' ultimately hit Inscapes wrapped up in a £350,000 unpaid invoice (well less the few pounds received following the CVA).
But rumour has it that Inscapes returned this summer to assist Plymouth with the pre-season pitch preparation.....the efforts pretty obvious as the playing surface was superb when Aldershot kicked off their League season at Home Park last Saturday.
The Shots were once again well organised and their high levels of fitness proved too much for a poor Argyle side. If we can display better control when in possession of the ball and if Mekki and Rodman find some form down the flanks, then we could be in for an exciting season.....
