Barton leaves QPR for Marseille....or does he?

Légion étrangère is a military service wing of the French Army established in 1831, unique because it was exclusively created for foreign nationals willing to serve in the French Armed Forces. Commanded by French officers, it is also open to French citizens, who now amount to about 25% of the recruits with the rest coming from 140 countries.

The Legion’s headquarters are in Aubagne about 10 miles east of Marseille in southern France.

The reasons and intentions of legionnaires joining the Foreign Legion, instead of the armed forces of their own countries, are pretty secret. Possible reasons include the majority of the Foreign Legion's ranks being either transient souls in need of escape and a regular wage, or refugees from countries undergoing times of crisis. In the past, the Foreign Legion had a reputation for attracting criminals on the run and would-be mercenaries, but the admissions process is now severely restricted and background checks are performed on all applicants. Generally speaking, convicted felons are prohibited from joining the service.

I wonder if Joey, sorry now to be known as Joe, Barton’s move will collapse once his paperwork has been read by someone in authority. And if so, will that mean we can look forward to seeing him at the Highbury Stadium tomorrow, when wwe play Fleetwood Town for the first time…….
