Reporting the death of Chris Barker is such a tragic headline, as we enter the new decade.
Chris was much loved wherever he kicked a football....and of course particularly in Wales’ capital city, Cardiff.
His attitude to the game, and support for those around it, was from another time. Thoughtful and respectful. Diligent and honest. Young players today would not go very far wrong if they adopted his wonderful demeanour.
But sadly he is gone...too soon. So sad. My thoughts are with all who knew and loved him.
Chris played over 600 games in a distinguished career for Alfreton Town, Barnsley, Cardiff City, Stoke City, Colchester Utd, QPR, Southend, Aldershot, Hereford and Western Super Mare....his final sporting resting place was Forest Green Rovers, where he worked with the U18s.
A lovely man ....he will be greatly missed.
