Aldershot kick-off their season on Saturday August 3rd with a home fixture against AFC Fylde....although I'm still somewhat disappointed that we found a way to avoid
relegation last season, as my obsessional supporting expenses would have
been much reduced with regional football.
AFC Fylde ...it's not often that we get to play against a coastal plain (a 13 mile peninsula in western Lancashire).
The 'much awaited fixture' against an area offering expansive coastal views, brings to mind a game played out a few years ago between Forest Green
Rovers (at the time a long standing member of the 'National League', but no more than a team from the Cotswolds) and
a former Football League club, from the north of England.
The coach load of away supporters, travelling south for the game, were extremely happy when the driver pulled up outside of the Parrot, in Forest Green, with plenty of time in hand to sink a few pints of real ale before the game started.
At 2.30pm the happy band of followers climbed back onto the coach and in one voice called out, 'take us to the ground please'. 'Where is it?' enquired the driver with just a hint of, 'it's not showing up in my Road Map of England'.
Nailsworth in Gloucestershire is certainly a long way from a small village set deep in the Surrey Hills and not far from Dorking.
Isn't life uncomplicated when you support a team from - Halifax, Wrexham, Dagenham, Torquay.....
