With just a touch of irony.....

In March 2011 Plymouth Argyle went into administration following a meeting of the club's directors. The debts were massive and it seemed that the Home Park curtain was about to come down on the Pilgrims for the last time.

But then in October 2011 the magic of a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) resulted in all unsecured creditors receiving less than one penny for every pound owed.... Plymouth were out of debt and within only a few months the club were talking up the prospect of promotion to the Championship and beyond.

Fibrelastic® is the registered trademark given to a totally natural turf growing in a Fibrelastic® rootzone. It delivers a superb playing surface for top-class professional football and rugby pitches.

A pitch developed with this system will comprise 80% by volume sand and 20% by volume organic matter, reinforced with both polypropylene and elastane fibres. The system can be expensive, perhaps up to £500,000 for a Football League pitch.

Oh, and what a bit of luck…..Plymouth managed to get Inscapes, a south Wales company, to upgrade the Home Park pitch with Fibrelastic® just before the massive debts became public knowledge……

The news that Plymouth Argyle were 'bust' ultimately hit Inscapes wrapped up in a £350,000 unpaid invoice (well less the few pounds received following the CVA).

And why would I be concerned……put it down to the irony illuminated by the Football League Groundsman of the Year Awards for 2011 announced on April 17th. The League 2 winner was Terry Roberts at Cheltenham Town. Highly Commended Awards went to Simon Marshall, Burton Albion and……David Radmore at Home Park.

Sleep well David in the knowledge that your playing surface is superb…..

Plymouth Argyle upgraded their pitch in May 2010 less than a year before they entered administration.
