From Woking to despair

It’s difficult to justify spending valuable commercial and private time writing about Aldershot, when the club’s combined efforts have been so poor in recent weeks…they simply haven’t warranted my attention.

But for reasons of record, here are some snippets from our journey since beating Woking, at Kingfield on Sunday 2nd January.

Sat 8th saw the Shots hold fellow strugglers Maidenhead to a 1v1 draw at the Rec. Then on the 15th,the Shots went out of the Trophy following a pretty lame defeat at Bromley (0v2).

Chesterfield, under the Shots former assistant manager James Rowe, were held to a hard fought 0v0 away draw in a game that was to become Rowe’s last hurrah (he parted company with the Spireites because they just didn’t like him). Although Southend Utd were much better than the Shots, we somehow secured a 1v1 draw at the Rec on Tuesday 25th.

Weymouth away on the 29th saw the home side display security measures a little bit out of keeping with the potential threat of our traveling supporters – I think the Shots are the red army. Ukraine is sadly experiencing the ruthless Red Army. A last-minute winner secured a valuable three points against our fellow strugglers.

At the beginning of February, Aldershot suffered a pathetic 3v1 home defeat at the hands of Barnet, then on the 15th, Grimsby Town easily squashed the Shots in a 3v1 away defeat.

And then Dover at home. A useless team of overweight and unfit lumps, with only seven points secured all season, easily held on for a 0v0 draw.

Did we really have to go to Wrexham…….a crowd of 8,500 witnessed just how bad Aldershot are (Wrexham won 4v1). Our team of small, and generally lightweight players were no doubt told to avoid any form of attack, as it might be considered a sign of organisational weakness. Mind you the Aviation Gin Bar hospitality lounge was as straight out of Hollywood as one could possibly expect in Wrexham.

The view from the Aviation Lounge at Wrexham
Funny old lights at Weymouth - four down to the ground and one out to the pitch
Wrexham packed in over 8,500 for the visit of the Shots - yes, it's goals, goals, goals, goals
Half-time in the Aviation Lounge and we are only losing 1v0....time to catch that flight to Vancouver before the ref starts the second half
Chesterfield's form is falling away, so it looks like the crooked spire will welcome the Shots again next season, if we can manage to stay up.
